WHAT TO STUDY:

With everything changing in GCSE English, it’s more important than ever to be properly prepared. And it’s never too soon to start.

Without a pass in English Language GCSE, students can’t move on: if they don’t pass the exam the first time, they have to re-take until they do – a scenario that stunts personal progress and affects self-esteem.

eastuition makes sure students pass the first time.

All too often exam boards report that whilst many students are able to relay information in a formulaic way in English exams, they don’t know how to interpret deeper meanings, analyse linguistic techniques or offer independent thought to secure the highest grades. With eastuition, students develop, practise and apply these skills.

why eastuition for English Language support?

Most tuition companies offer a ‘blanket’ approach to improving skills, reacting to differences in equal ways. At eastuition we start by recognising students as individuals and responding to them in different ways.

eastuition matches strategies to the student’s individual learning approach. Once we’ve established preferences in an approach to learning, we tailor tuition to bring out the very best in a student’s abilities.

At Key Stage 3 level, eastuition  builds on strengths to consolidate basic skills and enable the student to make progress beyond their current level.

Once students are into Year 10 and 11, we develop skills, deepen understanding and focus on exam techniques so the student is thoroughly equipped for whatever the question asks. At A-Level we enhance knowledge, provide context and ensure a wider skill-set.

All support is specifically geared towards Exam Board specifications – AQA, Edexcel and OCR. As an English examiner for AQA at GCSE and A-Level, Sarah-Jane provides comprehensive coverage of subject content from an examiner’s perspective, combined with expertise and effective teaching strategies.

English GCSE counts, for a lot. Whether you want to go to university, enrol on a vocational course or find a job, a good grade in English will help you get there.

The study of literature at GCSE is more than just reading a book and knowing what happens. Students need to show they can interpret intention and peel back the layers of meaning to reveal the writer’s craft.

eastuition equips students with a thorough understanding and critical appreciation of all set texts so they can approach the literature exam with confidence.

With a variety of activities and tasks,  novels, plays and poems are brought to life taking students on an exciting journey into the authors’ worlds. With renewed enthusiasm, students will soon be able to interpret and explain what lies beneath the words on the page.

eastuition students learn to tackle the importance of language, structure and form whilst exploring the wider social purpose and cultural precepts that inform the text. Students are shown how to move from general commentary to micro-analysis providing clear evidence in support of their own interpretations. With past paper practice, discussion and analysis of top-band responses, students discover how to succeed and excel.

Maths matters. Not just for GCSE, but for life.

To think logically or solve problems, a mathematical-mind makes all the difference. Whether you’re checking your change in a shop, altering quantities in a recipe, or trying to fathom mortgage rates, strong maths’ skills will make your daily life easy.

That’s why you have to pass maths at GCSE, or keep trying until you do. GCSE Maths will set you up for years to come.

But why do we need Maths when there’s calculators and Google?

Despite the availability of calculators, we still need to know what information to use in the first place. All too often exam boards report that many students lose key marks because they don’t know what they need to put into their calculators to work things out effectively.

What that comes down to is weak basic skills.

Which is why at eastuition we build skills from the ground up – brick by brick – ensuring students have the strongest of foundations to support them.

And Maths doesn’t stop at GCSE. If you decide to study beyond sixteen, mathematical skills are key in lots of other subjects too – Sciences, Technology, Psychology, Sociology, Geography, Economics, and even Music. Maths is everywhere!

With a variety of strategies, activities and practice, we bring maths to life to make reasoning reasonable and logic logical. With renewed enthusiasm and deeper understanding, students will soon be able to make things add up in ways they never could before.

With over 400 million native speakers worldwide, Spanish is the fourth most widely spoken language (after Mandarin, English and Hindi). If we count only native speakers, Spanish outranks English. It’s therefore no surprise that, according to a recent report published by the British Council, Spanish is now the most important foreign language we can learn. Which is one of the reasons eastuition loves teaching Spanish.

Aside from offering Adult Spanish classes, eastuition coaches and supports students of A-Level Spanish. Not only is our Spanish Tutor, Sarah-Jane, a qualified teacher and examiner but she’s also an experienced interpreter who’s lived and worked in Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Peru. Perfecto.

why eastuition for AS/A-Level Spanish support?

AS/A-Level Spanish not only requires students to develop confident and effective communication skills in Spanish but also expects students to show a thorough understanding of the culture in countries and communities where Spanish is spoken.

eastuition helps students to build enthusiasm for language learning whilst encouraging consideration of the language in a broader context so they can tackle the exams with confidence.

Advanced Level Spanish specifications require students to write and speak in Spanish with accurate grammar and syntax for a range of purposes, and to understand written or spoken Spanish in a variety of contexts and genres. In order to reach the highest grades, students need to show linguistic flair and competence. Such language skills can’t be crammed in with last minute revision, but need constant and gradual nourishment in order to flourish.

Spanish may appear easy to learn but it’s tricky to master. At an Advanced Level, unless you can conjugate verbs or manipulate tenses, progress will be slow. We begin by ensuring a firm scaffold for understanding grammar so students can learn the patterns, avoid the pitfalls and express themselves effectively. Once the grammar’s clear, everything else makes much more sense.

eastuition clears up what’s unclear and helps students move beyond the blocks. During a tuition session, all four skills are practised and students are encouraged to communicate in Spanish, regardless of mistakes they may make. Only then can confidence grow.

Learning a language requires dedication and discipline that can be tough to balance alone – with eastuition, a little help goes a very long way.

Creative writing is a living subject. As readers, we know how to live on the outside of writing but it’s writers who dwell within it – which is why eastuition is the supreme choice for students of A-Level Creative Writing.

Not only is our Creative Writing Tutor, Sarah-Jane, an experienced teacher and examiner, but she’s also a writer represented by a Literary Agency.

A-Level Creative Writing

Writing can be creative in all sorts of ways. Aside from literary texts, creative writing forms an integral part of the professional world of work. Students of A-Level Creative Writing are expected to develop expertise in all areas, from writing a text to order (following a specific professional brief) to developing their own voice in fiction – in short, be their own masters of the craft.

Perhaps the greatest stumbling block for students learning Creative Writing is the actual craft of writing: how to ‘show’ and not ‘tell’; how to start a scene later and leave earlier; the difference between story and plot – to name but a few.

At eastuition students are shown how to see creative writing from the inside out. By learning the techniques and devices of fiction, and by practising writing themselves,  students learn to appreciate the art and craft of writing in ways they didn’t think possible.

why eastuition Creative Writing coaching?

Creativity is a natural process that can’t be taught, but with the right approach, it can be accessed. The teaching of Creative Writing happens in exploring the ‘writing’ and facilitating the ‘creative’.

We don’t teach formulae to make students better writers, instead we make writers better students by encouraging originality, promoting difference and pointing out pitfalls. With individual guidance, students find the way in their own way.

At eastuition we start by recognising students as individuals and responding to them in different ways. eastuition tailors tuition to the student’s individual learning approach. Once we’ve established preferences in an approach to learning, we create a course that caters to difference and brings out the very best in a student’s individual abilities.

eastuition consolidates basic skills, develops understanding and focuses on exam techniques so the student is thoroughly equipped for whatever the question asks. Coaching is geared towards Exam Board specifications and provides comprehensive coverage of subject content, combined with writing experience, examiner expertise and effective teaching strategies.
