ADULT CLASSES

We’re never too old to learn, but we can grow older if we stop learning.

Research has proved there’s a direct link between education and everyday mental agility. Reason enough.

ADULT EDUCATION

Learning as an adult is invigorating. Blessed with the wisdom of years, we can dip into rich reservoirs of maturity and experience to make learning much easier than it was the first time. We’re self-motivated, able to drive and challenge ourselves from ‘within’ – all the learning resources we need are already at our fingertips.

Perhaps the biggest plus of Adult Education is the difference it can make to the ‘health’ of our brains. Learning anything new, especially a foreign language, dramatically reduces the risk of developing dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. When we learn a foreign language, we switch between different sounds, concepts and grammatical structures; skills that encourage dexterity and provide natural training to keep the brain in peak condition.

But aside from the neurological benefits, there are many other advantages to learning a new subject or improving old skills. Adults who show enthusiasm for learning set the perfect example to their children and grandchildren. If you embrace education, the chances are they will too.

Adult education is sociable too. Not only will you learn a new skill, but you’ll also have the opportunity to meet and connect with people who share a similar interest. Signing up to one of eastuition’s Adult Classes could benefit your life in more ways than you imagined.

Spanish – from Beginners to Advanced

“The limits of my language are the limits of my universe.” Ludwig Wittgenstein

With over 400 million native speakers worldwide and 40% of the population growth among Hispanic people, Spanish is the fourth most widely spoken language (after Mandarin, English and Hindi). If we count only native speakers, Spanish outranks English. It’s therefore no surprise that, according to ‘Languages for the Future’ (a recent report published by the British Council), Spanish is now the most important foreign language we can learn.

Spanish is becoming ever more vital in business too. In North America, Hispanic consumers are the fastest-growing segment of the market. Those who can communicate in Spanish will have the edge over their mono-lingual counterparts.

Learning Spanish will also contribute to a greater appreciation of Hispanic cultural heritage. From Miguel Cervantes to Gabriel García Márquez, or from Goya to Picasso, the world of art and literature is rich in Spanish influences.

And let’s not ignore the gastronomy. Learning Spanish can be the perfect excuse to sample Hispanic cuisine: tapas, paella, burritos, tamales, ceviche … and that’s just for starters!

So, whether you’re planning on moving up the corporate ladder, travelling across Argentina, or you’ve bought a property in Alicante, having some Spanish under your belt could make all the difference.

Creative Writing

Whether or not you have a book in you, there’ll be thousands of words inside just waiting to be written.

Getting in touch with our creativity has countless benefits, yet all too often life gets busy and we don’t give ourselves the time or space to indulge that essential part of us. Ironically, the faster we hurtle around and the busier we get, the more we lose sense of ourselves; perhaps one reason why creative writing classes are now more popular than ever. The structured time and focus of a class gives us permission to step off the treadmill, take a deep breath and re-invest in our creativity.

But what can creative writing do for me?

The act of making fiction is a magical process.

When we let our pens roam with our imaginations, we unleash what we didn’t know we had. We get a better understanding of ourselves and of others. We confront time and history. We gather experiences and explore meaning. As Flaubert suggests, the art of writing is the art of discovering what you believe’.

why eastuition Creative Writing Classes?

Creativity is a natural process that can’t be taught, but with the right approach, it can be accessed. The teaching of Creative Writing happens in exploring the ‘writing’ and facilitating the ‘creative’.

eastuition shows you how to see creative writing from the inside out. By observing the techniques and devices of fiction, and by practising and sharing writing yourselves, you learn to appreciate the art and craft of writing in ways you didn’t think possible.

I don’t teach formulas to make students better writers, instead I aim to make writers better students by encouraging originality, promoting difference and pointing out pitfalls. With individual guidance and group sharing, you find the way in your own way.

Upcoming Saturday Master Classes

Classes are suitable for amateur writers of all levels, from complete beginners to the more experienced. The day draws on a variety of sources and activities, with exercises that require silent and individual work. There will be opportunities to share work amongst the group for those willing to do so.

English – improve your writing skills

The limits of my language are the limits of my universe.” Ludwig Wittgenstein

Written communication has never been so important. In a world where people resort to emails rather than phone calls, knowing how to make your writing effective is vital to success.

Good grammar is credibility, especially on the Internet. Poor punctuation and disorganised sentence structures not only confuse a reader but also detract from your authority, making the wrong impression.

Good grammar is also good business; and in good business, details are everything. If your writing doesn’t show you care about the details of punctuation or grammar, people might presume you don’t care about other details. In blog posts and emails, or even on Facebook, your words are all you have – you need to make them count. Accurate use of grammar and punctuation will transform your writing and help you communicate in the way you intended.  A little help will go a very long way.
